Self Care Sunday... Watching the Wedding and Just Being a Girl....

Just a little about me....

When I was a little girl I remember the biggest event of every little girl's life was the Royal wedding of Charles and Diana. Granted it didn't turn out as all had hoped (even then I was like, 'she's going to marry 'him'.....? At nine years old I knew he was a bit of a creep) Yet this was the girly girl event,  it was a 'fairytale' wedding. My parent's were divorced, and even at nine I was a bit cynical about the whole 'happy family' thing. I was a tomboy... I preferred jeans and t's over pink and dresses.....

Fast forward to now.... I own lots of pink, I wear dresses and cardies... I march to the beat of my own drum.... I don't wear heels but have an astonishing collection of Chuck Taylors. Well I AM the Duchess of Sassy Town. I have grown up, and have been married to my Navy sweetheart for 21 years now, so safe to say I am no longer cynical about the 'happy family'.

I still follow the Royal family, and have seen William and Kate's wedding as well as followed the courtship of both of Diana's boys. I've always adored Harry, my little ginger wild child, so tonight I'm streaming the wedding on Hulu.... I did not wake up at 3 AM to watch it, nope. I adore Harry and his new bride, however I love my sleep better.... So right now, as I blog, I'm watching the wedding, thinking of Diana, my childhood hero. No, I didn't make tea and scones... just in my Stitch sweatshirt and sweatpants.... no fancy outfit, no gloves or fascinator. So for me, this is my 'self-care'.... enjoying the love story of Harry and Meghan fold out today in grand fashion.

As I've been watching the coverage I have been loving all the fashion and hats of the women as they enter. Amal Clooney and Victoria Beckham are by far my two favorites. Then came the dress, Meghan's dress inspired by house of Givenchy.... gorgeous lines and she was glowing.....

You may be asking, 'How is watching a wedding self-care'? Well I believe in partaking in celebrations of love to be great forms of self care. Weddings are symbols of hope, symbols of love, and now  a symbol that LOVE is LOVE...  You can't help not being happy at a wedding.... unless you're the one paying for it (just kidding). All the best rom-coms end in weddings... Notting Hill, 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer.... the list goes on...

So on that note... the Royal Wedding is still available to watch on Hulu now. You may not have a true love now, you may have been jaded by love... I've been there. I am thankful that I was there at one time because now I have a relationship that's full of love and fire. The relationship of marriage is amazing, but it's hard work.  Anyone that tells you otherwise hasn't had much of a relationship. We've fought with each other and for each other.
