This past month we have gone on a very personal journey, a very special journey to help you discover your sacred space. I've taken you through the very simple principles of finding where to look for your space, what to put in your place, and some ideas in how to use it. Today is Self-Care Sunday, and this is where I bring you to the end of this journey, and the beginning of another.... now it's your turn to journey.... time to step beyond your sacred space and venture out. The past several months I have felt isolated and alone due to lack of transportation and the loss of the ability to drive due to a car accident in August. My sacred space at many times is my craft room, creativity is my therapy, and I have often lost myself in it. Your sacred space time is precious, but I want you to know that you need to find sacred spaces outside your home. Sacred space within the company of your sisters... may or may not be blood sisters, but your kindred spirits. Isolating yourself within the confines of your sacred space may be peaceful in short doses, but don't lock yourself away from the world. Out side the walls of your home there is a WORLD of sacred spaces.
It can be on a drive or train trip to see the country and where the sky and the mountain meet, where the ocean laps at the world's edge....
It can be at a picnic table in the cool evening at a campsite....
It could be at the river's edge....
And in the presence of a beautiful garden.
All of these places can be sacred spaces if you just shut out the world around and just focus on the beauty around you. Whatever spiritual practice you follow there is one common thread, the beauty and expanse of nature. One of the best forms of self-care is to get out in it! Even in the most urban jungle there is a place of refuge, a park or pier by the ocean just a drive, walk, or bus/train ride away. Get out in the world and live. Your sacred space is your own, but also remember that isolation is a one way ticket to the land of depression. So don't buy that ticket... close your book, put on that hoodie, slip on those tennis shoes and GET OUT!
Thank you to all of you who have stuck with me through this series. Have a blessed Sunday and remember to keep reading here!
