Network, network, network... shop, shop, shop...some serious girl time with some old friends and making new ones, Friday is going to rock. I'm seriously thinking about registering to work for Saturday. Depends on how things go on Friday. Speaking of work. Today is my interview with JoAnn Fabric and Crafts. I am a little nervous. I haven't worked outside the home little over nine years. Anyhow... Friday. Scrapbook Expo seems to have improved over the past times I've been. Last time I was there I was disappointed at the selection of items they had and it was rather disorganized. This year they really seem to have everything going like clockwork. What really helps is they have created a Facebook group that allows you to interact with other crafters before the Expo to get tips on travel, local eateries, and other logistics. The first time I went many years ago... like twelve years ago, I went with my crafting buddy Nancy. Now she is living in Oakland pursuing her passion of dance and holistic care. She crafts dance costumes and choreographs amazing pieces of movement. You'll find her blog on the side here in Friends and Muses... We had a great time at Expo, even went to the crop dressed as pirates (that was the theme that night). I have really been missing my crafty sisters, Barb, Sonda, Thelma, and Nancy. Barb, Thelma and Sonda and I were members of the Scrapbook Sorority, a group created by Thelma that haunted crops at local scrapbook stores. After the crash of 08 and the subsequent demise of all but one of our local scrapbook stores in the area, we all went our separate ways. We all keep in touch in some form or another, but gone are the days of crafting the night away listening to Barb's playlist of fun and funky tunes. I miss it. In it's place I have found Facebook Groups somewhat replace the fellowship of crops, but I miss the face to face interaction, the getting out of the house and sharing snacks, music and memories with my fellow crafters. I have made some new friends, some who I clicked with instantly, sadly though, they are states away. Right now my ability to get around is limited since my car accident, so getting to the closest local scrapbook store is a two hour bus ride across town. My other favorite place to haunt is all the way in Dixon.... not available by bus... So this Friday I will revel in the fact that I am going to the LARGEST local scrapbook store in town... large enough to fit the Sacramento Convention Center. There I plan to pass out my business cards, network about my blog, and meet new and interesting people... oh yeah, and I'm going to SHOP. I am really excited that one of the main exhibitors is the widely popular Photoplay paper company. They have some amazing kits and I can't wait to empty my wallet in thier general direction.... on that note... off I go.
Nancy and I, Expo 2004....
